Pão de Açucar Group commemorates success of remote support
Customized system of optimization implemented for InfoSERVER with a Microsoft SMS solution and supported by servers of hardware with Intel platform.

To implement a customized system to automatize and to perfect the attendance of remote support to the park. A challenge that, over all, placed the system to run in tunning with SMS solution in platforms based on the Intel architecture®.
The Company
The Pão de Açucar*, the biggest retailer group in Brazil, closed the year of 2001 with an invoicing of R$ 10 billion. Detainer of the brands: Pão de Açucar, Extra*, Electro*, Barateiro*, more recently, Sé Supermercados*, the operation group involves 480 store distributed in 12 states and a total of 52 thousand employees.
For the constant maintenance and integration of these impressive data, the Group Pão de Açucar more than destined 100 Real million for sectors as technology, logistic and reform of store alone in 2002.
Chance
In strategical projects approved by the Pão de Açucar Group, was the implementation of the Microsoft SMS* solution, a customized system of optimization of the attendance of remote support, distribution of applications, inventory of the hardware and software, supported for the Intel platform®.
Pão de Açucar Group is one of the biggest user of the Intel technology® - its installed park has more than 8,500 microcomputers; 70 servers in its headquarters in São Paulo and a server in each one of its 480 store, all basing on the Intel architecture®.
Pão de Açucar: technology case
One of the great concerns of Pão de Açucar, exactly for being the biggest retailer of the national market and act in 12 states of the country, is to guarantee the management of its immense installed park.
In 2001, one of the strategical decisions was the implementation of SMS solution to improve the time of reply to the users of the equipment. "It is a very useful tool for company that has a great geographic dispersion as Pão de Açucar", comments Ney Dos Santos, director of Technology of the Group.
The task to develop and to implement the best solution was the position of InfoSERVER*, in a "natural" choice classified for Ney Dos Santos. " InfoSERVER has been acting as partner with Pão de Açucar in several other projects, all very well-succeeded", comments the executive. Moreover, he adds: " InfoSERVER knows very well the products of the Microsoft *, in special SMS".
InfoSERVER completed the first phase of the work of implantation of the SMS in all the store of the Pão de Açucar of the capital of São Paulo. "With this, we start to decide most of our logistic problems saw access remote", said Ney Dos Santos.
This year, the integrator, that is EBSP Intel® and Microsoft * Gold Partner in Enterprise Systems, beginning to the second phase - that it understands the implementation of the same solution in all the store of the Extra, Barateiro, Store of the Electro and Deposits of the Group. The third and last phase of the work - customization and adequacy of the system - is foreseen to finish until the end of this year.
According to Ney Dos Santos, the solution of InfoSERVER, with the support of the platform based on the technology of Intel processors® provided important profits in two highly sensible areas: Inventory and Support.
"For the simple typing of the number of patrimony of the machine that is setting in motion the support, the support attendant has instantly all the information on the equipment, among others important data", affirms Reinaldo Carletti, InfoSERVER’s Manager Business.
The solution provided total controlled on the installed park and the possibility to intervene directly in the equipment of an user from the central support, located in the headquarters of the Group, in São Paulo. "Most of time, this is enough to decide the problem, providing an enormous economy of time and costs with displacements", summed up the director of Technology of Pão de Açucar.
Using the advantage of potential and performance of the solution in Intel platform®, InfoSERVER also made available information gotten on all the installed park of the hardware and software, transforming them into managemental information, presented inside of the executive language standard of Pão de Açucar, helping to take technological decisions. "Detailed reports on totals and characteristics of the machines, for example, can help to calculate the cost of the necessary infrastructure for one upgrade of the hardware, licensing of software and the calculation of ROI", affirms Reinaldo Carletti.
